Financial implications for spouse not in care home?

What are the financial implications on the other partner when their spouse goes into nursing care?
Dad is in a respite placement with a view to going into full time care. He has a private pension whereas mum was a ‘stay at home’ mum so only has her state pension.
Is she entitled to half his private pension? Can anyone point me to a website that gives this info?
Dad is currently self funding but with fast dwindling funds will soon need the council to contribute. Mum may need care in the future and we want to protect her ‘share’ of any joint monies.
I’d welcome any help from those of you who’ve been through this as it’s all new to me - thank you!

Age Uk factsheets have all these details. Yes i think she is eligible for half of his private pension or if her state pension is low then she could look at whether she qualifies for Pension credit. I think joint savings are usually halved at the time of going into the care home.
