Societal neglect of the elder population

I’ve just been reading about Robert Price in Dagenham and can’t stop crying about this poor man, killed by a fire caused by youths in his home. The last years of his life targeted, harassed and windows smashed by local youths. The scene of his house is dispicable boarded up and just left to rot-A brick was thrown through his window 2 hours before he was killed.
He had early onset dementia and allegedly had carers going in so you have to ask how he was allowed to be so neglected by services to this degree? He had raised concerns to neighbours about being scared and wouldn’t leave his house. I know some elderly people withdraw themselves and don’t want to engage but you have to ask where is was the community? Where were the police and social services?
Im usually quite hardened to stuff but this story has really got to me.
I’ve contacted the Dagnam MP Margaret Mullane and asked her to raise the concern for the elderly and vulnerable. I think they need to do an inquiry or safeguarding review into how this was allowed to happen and do more to protect other isolated elderly and vulnerable people from youth crime.
Anyway if anyone feels as outraged as me about this poor man or other cases please also contact [email protected] or the local MP

@Sunrae28 awful story. It appears that at least one of the youths responsible did know what he did was wrong as he self reported himself to a worker at the care home he was in. Some people are simply not being cared for in ‘care home’ environments. The ‘system’ in general is broken. The number of children being removed from mainstream school environments is huge. Companies are making vast profits off the back of lots of societal breakdowns. I don’t have any answers but it is clear we are in a mess as a society. This article highlights children missing from education-the numbers are staggering. https://epi.org.uk/publications-and-research/children-missing-from-education/

It is heartbreaking reading what happened to the gentleman. Parents need to take more responsibility in raising children to respect others. I am ready to be flamed -I just think this story highlights how broken parts of society are.

Children Missing from Education - Education Policy Institute

A new report by the Education Policy Institute finds that up to 300,000 children may be missing from education entirely. By comparing GP registrations with school registrations and data on pupils in registered home education for the first time, EPI fin...
