I had some sad news about my dad, he's on an end of life pathway in the hospital after being admitted with pneumonia. I'm not there because he is unconscious and they say he can't hear anything, my brother has been talking to the drs and my mum is up there too.

Sad as it is I am glad it should be a peaceful death and he is unaware, also his dementia has never got to such a severe stage he couldn't recognise family etc. he is 81 which is quite a good innings really.

Does anyone know how ling it might take? they stopped the antibiotics yesterday. Thanks

I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I think everyone is different but for my godmother earlier this year once the antibiotics were stopped it was about 4 days until she died. It was very peaceful and she never regained consciousness.

We are in a very similar situation, though dad is nearer 90. Hospital have said anything from 48 hours to 2 weeks, his last lot of antibiotics finished on Monday.

Thank you, he's been fighting for nearly 6 weeks after a serious fall caused complications. We're hoping it will now be peaceful and swift
