Can anyone recommend a stairlift company that doesn’t bombard you with hard sell tactics? Acorn are already off the list for this reason!

The one that partner with age uk don't do this, and all their profits go back to age uk too Buy | stairlifts | Age UK

We used a small local company that sold reconditioned stairlifts. They were excellent. So maybe try to see if you can find one? Or I can recommend the ones we used if near Bucks/Berks.

Thanks 🤩

Where do you/they live? If Midlands and the North, we found Parkgate Mobility very helpful - new or reconditioned stairlifts and other kit. I'm in London but lots of things can be done at a distance.

We used Home Stairlifts | Affordable and Easy To Use Stairlifts in Berks/Bucks. They were excellent.

We used Acorn stairlifts for my DM and can’t recommend them highly enough. I’m surprised to hear you have had a hard sell from them as we didn’t have that. However, we purchased the stairlift via a third party, a local mobility company, so perhaps that’s why. The first time we spoke directly to Acorn was when they came to fit the chairlift. Their call out service has been great (had to call them twice in 2.5 years) and one of those call outs was on Xmas Eve and they were out within a couple of hours.

We used the Age UK one and they were pretty good, gave them choices about how it could be installed, etc. Also one call-out under warranty was done promptly same day, and the 2 year inspection happened properly too. (We’ve now extended the warranty as DPs aren’t really safe on the stairs without it). I think it cost about 1800 to start with but has been worth it.

We went with Halton Stairlifts and it was exactly what you’re after: free home survey, one quote by email, and zero pushy calls. They just rang once to confirm the install date and that was it. Chair was fitted in under a day and we haven’t had a hard sell or surprise follow-ups since.

for what it's worth I was also going to recommend ageco (linked with age uk) as their proceeds go to the national charity

Don't buy a new one - go for second hand. Stairlifts are often removed from houses, refurbished and sold on - and they are absolutely fine. So ask around for someone who does this.

Have you contacted your LA? I did this for my dad and was pleasantly surprised to find he was entitled to £5k of assistance equipment, they arranged everything with Stannah including moving sockets and bannister and fitting the stairlift so we didn’t even have to approach any companies directly.

Try Unicorn Stairlifts, they have a no pressure sales ethos which is backed up by reviews on their website. They offer stairlifts from £1,195, including Acorn curved stairlifts from £2,500, no hidden costs, offer buybacks, low warranty costs. They only cover the north of England however.

I’d recommend about:blank Think Stairlifts Ltd. We used them for my parents and they were great — no pressure, no hard sell, just straightforward advice and time to decide. Really positive experience overall.

Doodlesthedog · 22/04/2026 09:31

We used www.helpinghandstairlifts.co.uk . The service my parents received was exceptional. Really responsive, no pressure to buy or make a quick decision and when Ian fitted the stairlift, it only took a couple of hours. No mess, no fuss, I would happily recommend them.
