How much did/do you pay your live in carer per week?

I think it’s £1750 a week. We have to have double ups on top 3x per day as my mum is bedbound. We do 50% live in care and cover the other half with family and visiting care. It’s not the cheapest but it’s working well.

So that's over £7500 a month. You pay out of your pocket? If so you wealthy?

The average person would not earn this much

Sounds about right. When I did a rough cost, it was about £80k a year. Unless you are an unpaid carer, in which case it is £4,258.80 a year.

Yes we use Helping Hands. We’ve found them professional and responsive when something goes wrong. The carers are well trained and have my mum’s best interest at heart.

My mum pays from her inheritance from her father’s house which she invested. He was raised in poverty and saved all his life. We are lucky we have the choice to have my mum at home and still take part in her care. Her care was funded from April to September as she was thought to be end of life but then withdrawn as she did well with family and carers. My dad died in July so we wanted to keep her with familiar surroundings and people. The money will run out and then we may be forced to consider a care home which everyone agrees is not in her best interests. It’s a terrifying journey with heartbreaking decisions along the way.
