Sorry, a pointless post really, I just wanted to share with people who understand. Mum has had Alzheimer’s for about 7 years. She also recently had a stroke. I live about 300 miles away and work full time - also mum to 3 teenagers but travel to see her when I can.
I came up this weekend after two weeks not seeing her and she has massively deteriorated
She doesn’t recognise me, has pretty much stopped speaking and is just lying in bed . She’s not there but I can’t grieve her because she’s still alive.
Her partner is nursing her at home with carers visiting.
She doesn’t seem distressed or in pain. She doesn’t seem anything. I can’t stop crying and just feel so sad.
thank you for reading

I'm so sorry OP, I've been exactly where you are and it's indescribable.

Be kind to yourself, cry if /when you need to.

Remember your mum at her best, not the version that alzheimers made her xx

I'm so so sorry OP, how devastating. Take care of yourself, I hope you have lots of support. May your mother rest in peace now. ❤️

I'm sorry for your loss. I felt that it was a release when my dad went, he had cancer and had been very unwell for some time. It sounds trite but he was at peace and his suffering was over so it was a mixture of grief and relief at the end.

I am so sorry you have lost your lovely mum. It sounds as though she had a very peaceful passing which is what we all hope for but it must be really really tough for you. 💐

I’m sorry your Mum and you have been through these hard times. Hopefully in time you will be able to remember the Mum before all this. It is a difficult time; for me it helped to remember that this is the natural order. It’s also an enormous loss for us which is hard to come to terms with. All the best to you.

Thinking of you OP, and hoping you are OK.
My wonderful FIL is in the early stages of Alzheimers and it makes me so very sad thinking of what will happen.
Sending you big virtual hugs, hope you have lots of support.
