Anyone sold a Mobility scooter to one of “dealers”

Mother wants rid of my Dads mobility scooter now he’s dead.
It cost around £1600 and it’s in good condition - I keep telling her she’ll only get a few hundred quid for it if she’s lucky, but she keeps finding clippings from the papers about companies who buy them used and thinks she’s going to get £1000 because the adverts suggest as much!

Has anyone actually done this and gotten a decent price and collection?

I think she’ll end up with very little.

I got the wrong end of the stick from the title and was going to ask why on earth drug dealers want mobility scooters.

Anyway, there's only one way to find out what the companies she's read about will give her for the scooter. I agree she'll be disappointed that she won't get back close to what they paid for it, but she might be happy enough with the offer.

I also have a disability scooter to sell, so would be very interested to hear how you get on. I was pointed in the direction of a dealer but haven't tried it yet as it needs a new battery. I am torn whether to replace the batteries and try to sell privately, or cut my losses and sell it unworking via a dealer.

She will end up with less than she thinks selling to a dealer. Recently sold one which was my late DH and one for my DD and got much less than they were "worth". The dealers have to service them and then hold them as stock until sold, and currently there are a lot of second hand scooters around as most people tend to want to buy new / use their motability allowance.

Mobility scooters are like stair lifts - second hand value is minimal sadly. It's maddening after spending £1000 + and often much more. A bit like buying a new car , as soon as you drive it off the forecourt its value goes down significantly.

@Aligirlbear I’d not thought about the motability allowance purchase side of things affecting sales. I will talk to her about that.

@PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich sorry for the misleading title! It was written after another frustrating phone call in which I am being expected to flog this scooter despite being a few hours away etc!

@SwisswolvesLilley The batteries seem quite expensive for these things!
