Bloody rug!

My parents are mid 70s and in fine fettle. Mum does have osteoporosis however. They have this bloody rug in the middle on the room in a slightly weird place, covering an ink stain Confused it's quite a thick rug.
Every time I visit I fall over it,today two family members tripped. Mum and dad don't but I am genuinely worried one day it will be another matter. So I'd link to replace it with something less trip prone.

Any suggestions? Something low profile?

You can get adhesive type things to stops rugs lifting, but any OT I've ever worked with would say remove rugs completely for safety!. What flooring is the ink stain in? If a wooden floor they might be able to sand it out. If tile- what have they tried to clean it?

Spill some more ink on it

While I understand your concern, my DPs are also in their 70s and if I told them that they should remove it in case they happened to trip over it, I'm not sure they'd be talking to me. They're not old, are fully mentally competent and can make their own decisions!

It's carpet. The insurers tried to remove it but couldn't so paid up but getting new carpet involves moving big and heavy furniture so they opted for rug. I thought about tape. On a lower profile rug I think it would be much better.
@mynameiscalypso that's fair but I work in the nhs, they know what I see at work so I can get away with it plus they know I'm right!

Rugs were banned in my mother's AL place. Although she did manage to trip three times on other things. Some carpet fitters will work around heavy furniture or get a couple of strapping lads in for a few quid to help!

The rug is only there to cover an ink stain on the carpet??

Get rid of the rug and replace the fitted carpet. You can get dirt cheap stuff from places like https://www.carpets4less.com/

Like, £6 per m2. Yes, cost of underlay and fitting on top, but one room won't cost much.

Edited to correct typos.
