Hi, Looking to hire in some help for my nan with arthritis in her hands & a tremor. Definitely need a cleaner (normal cleaning) but there are other bits she needs help with that probably wouldn’t come under the normal job description. No personal care needs, things like ripping the tabs off to open Amazon parcels, breaking the seal on cans of deodorant, removing the tabs on new honey bottles / ketchup bottles. Ideally we’d like it to be the same person 2 x per week - but who are we looking for? Neither cleaner or carer seem appropriate - Domestic helper?

Thanks

We organised a cleaner, a gardner one morning a week, Farm Foods delivery, and as she grew more frail, a home chiropodist and a taxi account so she could book to take her shopping, to the hair salon and to a pensioners lunch once a week.

That, a weekly family visit and an alarm button meant she was happy in her own home until a week before she died. We were lucky that it worked for her.

It also meant she had something to get up and tidy for, most mornings, and all the helpers had my phone number and would ring if they thought anything was wrong.

I would say domestic help. Just explain beforehand that they might have to do small ad hoc tasks.
