"check the internet and research this medicine"

My mother never learned how to use computers or technology or the internet.

A new behaviour from her in recent months is that any time shes at the doctor and she gets prescribed a medicine she wants me to check online about the medicine and give her information about it.

At first I obliged this request (not knowing what was in store and what was to come). Often there can be pages and pages online.

In April she got sick and it took a week to persuade her to go to the doctor and she had shingles and a UTI. She was prescribed a few different medicines.

She did the same thing where she wanted me to research her medicines. It doesn't make sense. Her doctor prescribed her medicines and it often comes with leaflets. I don't know what she's looking for and what sort of answers she wants from the internet.

Then she wanted me to research shingles and the NHS has an information page and I printed that. The page said something like 'you will be prescribed medicines like antivirals such xyz". They only just gave an example. Then she checked her medicine and it had a different name and she got cross and alluded to her doctor prescribing the wrong medicine and trying to poison her. Which wasnt the case. She was likely prescribed a different anti viral or brand name or something.

Another time I searched online for her and no information came up or it was only little print stuff and I had to redirect her to go to the pharmacist because the internet doesn't have answers which she wasn't happy about and she never did go back to the chemist to talk to the pharmacist.

Then more recently she had a dental infection and the dentist proscribed her an antibiotic and she got a hold of me and she tried the same thing again requesting me to research the medicine she got. At that stage, I was up the walls in so much and flat out busy and I put a stop to it and told her there's no need. It's an antibiotic.

What is she doing this? It is so odd. Why can't she just take the medicine that she's supposed take without a need this research it. Why is she targeting me instead of going to the pharmacist with her questions.

Sounds like she is anxious and only trusts you.

Can she walk to a pharmacy? If so, redirect her to them whenever possible. If needed, visit with her once so she knows who to talk to.

Do you think she has a friend or other family member who believes in “Big Pharma” conspiracies which has scared her ?
