Fractures, old age

My DM took a fall the other day and fractured her pelvis. She is 88, has dementia, is in hospital, waiting for a rehab bed. She's in a lot of pain and needs to be taken to the bathroom etc. There's not much they can do for her - surgery-wise, her age is a factor. Can her pelvis heal? Realistically, will she ever get back to full mobility again, has anyone ever been in this situation? What happens after rehab - does it have to be full on nursing home care? I know every case depends on the individual but it seems such a nasty untreatable injury.

Unfortunately the answer is it depends.

Her ability to rehab may be affected by her dementia but then some people surprise you.

Essentially it's too early to know if she will need a nursing home as anything could happen.

They usually offer hip replacement even to terminally ill patients.
My grandma 93 had a fall in a hospice and they still replaced her half hip.i think not to do so is very painful and they can't even sit up without.
