Does such a thing exist?

My DGM uses one of these, because she has such bad arthritis in her knees and ankles.

However, we only have one car it fits in, and my DM is is in her 60s and struggles to lift it. DSis is pregnant, so she can't lift it at the moment.

I don't mind doing it, and DGM enjoys going to the garden centre, the local gardens, my parents' house etc so much that it's worth it. And of course we need a way to take her to the opticians/dentists etc.

But it's so heavy and awkward. I have a massive bruise on my thigh from misjudging it yesterday, and wondered if there was something just for car-wheelchair transfer that might be better.

Obviously they have to be heavy to be stable, but if there's one that can go into two pieces, or the handle collapses so it isn't an L shape it would make it less awkward. Also it might fit in a smaller car then which would be helpful, or just be easier to fit the wheelchair in as well.

Half the time you only find out about useful things by accident! So I thought somebody on here might have experience with their DPs, or there might be a physio/OT about who could help. Smile

Google collapsible transfer stand. Several options come up. I’ve never used one so cannot offer help as to which ones are good/bad/heavy/light.
But amazon has this one which might be a start? https://amzn.eu/d/fYThPnn?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Otherwise it might be a trip out to a good mobility aid supplier - a box warehouse type as opposed to high street store, to see if you can try them out and see which one fits your needs best as they are not cheap.

Thank you, that looks a good option from a quick look and gives me somewhere to start.

Would something like a transfer board work to get her from car to wheelchair? This is one example, there are different designs.

If not, having a look around on Careco or Complete Care Shop would give you some more ideas
