I have been told by the gp I must register as an unpaid carer. Can I be compelled to do this?

You don't have to but it's an advantage to do so. This is part of your job. Can't think why you wouldn't.

I apologise, I have not been clear at all in my post. I said in my op it was the gp but by that I meant the gp surgery, that is to say the receptionist. I haven't seen a gp at all.

I didn't ask many questions because I was thrown by the turn the conversation took. I'm not good at thinking of questions at the time. I don't like questioning people in public facing roles in case they think I am having a go as they get a lot of that in their jobs.

This is nothing to do with my job.

My DC appointment was just a routine one and I need to phone back when more appointments become available after the holidays.

Thank you for the advice and suggestions you have offered.
