How do you manage GP’s and the NHS app?

I’m now having to organise GP/hospital appointments for DM, and I’ve recently downloaded the NHS app on her iPad, but because she lives away from me I’m struggling.
I can make a GP appointment on line, but then they are sending her a text that she needs to complete to make the appointment. But she can’t, she’s struggling with her phone/iPad now.
The GP will speak to me by proxy, but by the time I get through the appointments have gone.
Where am I going wrong?

I looked at managing the NHS app on my iPad, but we’re not at the same GP, so it looks like I can’t.

You would probably have to go & see the receptionist with your parents, but could they add your parents to your app? It’s a slightly different situation, but I have DS added to mine.

No they can’t add her unless you’re registered at the same surgery.

When I was managing my FIL's doctors appointment I just used to give my mobile number instead of his. The GP surgery had mine as first call too.

But I do want the surgery to ring her about appointments etc. Although I’ve found out today that she didn’t write down an appointment that they gave her last week.
Perhaps I need to take the whole thing over so that they only ever contact me, but that feels like I’m taking over her life and treating her like a child! I can’t win.

You should be able to be added as a carer to your parents account - you will then receive notifications etc. You will probably have to go into the surgery to get this done.

Can you set her app up with a separate email address and your mobile number.

The GP is supposed to be able to give you permission to add your mum even if you aren't at the same surgery. No idea if it actually works as mum's GP practice apparently find it incredible that I don't live close enough to pop in and pick up a paper form and despite promising to send it to me several times (and every time I feel like I have to justify not living close to mum and working full time despite the fact that she is the one that moved away) they still haven't.

OK, so I’ve filled in a form at her GP surgery, and I’m going to be able to have access to her NHS app.
