OCD in old age

My mother has been engaged in what I acn only describe has some manic cleaning episodes. Utterly OCD. She was never like this before. Now shes getting anxious and angry if the loo is used and she keeps cleaning it. It's not only the loo. From the moment she is finished her breakfast in the mornings til evening time it's all go, go, go - with household cleaning. It's all clean, clean, clean. About 6 or 7 days a week.

The intensity isn't right. She usually takes break for one day while she goes into the city for shopping but if she doesn't go shopping, it's more cleaning.

It looks sometimes there's no structure to what she's doing. In the middle of polishing pots and pans she stopped and moved over to rearrange magnets on the fridge.

She is constantly rearranging things.

I know no one will see an issue with this but it's just the obsessive nature of what's going on.

I think she is bored and idle and she has to keep going and keep doing something and have something to do.

I encouraged her to take up a hobby and any suggestions I made she shot them all done and complained about them all. I even encouraged her to explore recipes and she hardly cooks any more and she will never bake it try anything new.

She never carved a life out for herself outside of the family home. She doesn't have any close friends who could come and visit and where they can all go out together, walking or for tea.

I just don't think it's healthy to do what she's doing. She's utterly obsessed.

I take it you still live with her?

NotAnotherPylon · 22/11/2023 17:45

Oh hello again. This is the mother who promised to have a mass said for your cousin? She doesn't seem to be able to do anything right. Do you live in the same house as her?
