A bit of a different topic here. My Parents in Law are both in a care home together and due to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary soon which is quite an achievement. They are having a party in the home. Mother in Law has asked us to get her some perfume, it was not something she ever really wore and I only wear one type which is quite heavy so not really for her I do not think. I also do not want to buy anything expensive. She used to like Avon products and although I do not like MLM I was considering something from them. Can anyone suggest something light and floral which would be suitable for an elderly lady please. Thanks

My first thought was Noa.

You can now get many of the old classics which may be familiar to her inexpensively. My MIL likes Je Reviens, Anáis Anáis l'originale, L'Air Du Temps, Lanvin Arpege, or Rive Gauche. Cheap as chips but classy options readily available include Coty L'Aimant and Vanderbilt.

Please come back to tell us what you decide.
This is a subject close to my heart today as a thoughtful kind male relative has just bought some Anáis Anáis to spray on an elderly aunt who is dying in hospital. They say smell is the last sense to go.

My late mother would have been that sort of age now, and her favourites were Blue Grass and L'Air du Temps. Both quite sweet scents, I think.

@Mrsjayy lovely memories of your grandmother.

I use talc every day and have done for 50+ years.

Mrsjayy · 08/10/2023 21:39

Isn't it funny the smallest of memories you remember .

Comedycook · 08/10/2023 21:41

clarins Eau Dynamisante

Or dare I say, Elizabeth Arden, Sunflowers

Papillon23 · 08/10/2023 21:46

Another one suggesting M and S - my favourite is the ones they bring in from Fragonard (so a second suggestion for those).

RosesAndHellebores · 08/10/2023 21:47

Hmm. Dior do travel roll-on perfumes that might be suitable for some one elderly and in a care home.

It's hard to say what she would like if we don't know what she used to wear.

My mother's 87 and when I was very small, wore Chanel No 5 and then switched to First which she still wears on special occasions. She doesn't wear perfume every day. She would also appreciate my grandma's scents which were L'Heure Bleu, Shalimar and Tweed.

@MariePaperRoses I have Green Tea, it's a lovely fresh scent.

Another vote for Coty L’ Aimant. I used to buy the dab on cream version for DM . I’m 57 & love it myself.

My Mum used to wear this but it was a sort of cream in a black bottle with a gold top & you dabbed it on your neck.
Don't think it's available now. 😟

I can remember her getting ready to go on nights out and putting it on. 🙂

Haha, cross post with @RabbitsRock 😁

I'm nearly 75 and a proper perfume head! I couldn't afford it when my children were growing up so am making up for lost time.
My favourite is the original Opium but a bit heavy for everyday.
I agree with some of the others that m and s have a lovely selection. Next and Zara too.
Aldi do really good dupes for Jo Malone but of course the real thing is great if finances allow!

mummybear2104 · 27/02/2024 19:43

My 79 year old mum loves Chanel Mademoiselle, it does last well too.

”First created by Francois Coty in 1927 for the love of his life, Coty L'Aimant Parfum de Toilette spray is a distinctive, timeless and delicate fragrance that combines rose, orchid and golden jasmin softly embraced with sandalwood and vanilla. Top: Bergamot, neroli, peach, and aldehydes.” About £10. Buy from somewhere reputable, like Boots, as there’s fakes around (though you would have thought it was hardly worth it)

You don’t be able to get the cream but the perfume spray is still available.

Stopwiththedamnrain · 28/02/2024 10:14

DMIL also used to wear L'Aimant by Coty 💖

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/02/2024 10:16

I wear l’Aimant. But I’m a MIL.
