Hi , so dad has been in hospital quite a few weeks after a stroke and has finally been offered a bed at a rehab Im hoping that it’ll help with his walking & general mobility
Hes being transferred tomorrow and tbh I’m nervous , can anyone tell me what to expect please ?

A family friend got a place in one, and it was amazing. Really good care team, lots of physio and really encouraging independence. There's always a massive waiting list for a bed there. They're also very good at making sure everything is in place before a discharge.

Very much a positive after being in hospital for months.

Thankyou so much your reply is so reassuring
I’m so nervous it’s a big deal for my dad after being in hospital for long , he might find it hard to adapt I don’t know .

It's completely different to a hospital. It'll be unsettling to change, and get used to new faces but as a rule, they're great places. Physio and ongoing care co-ordination is often very poor in hospital.

Thankyou for your reply Millwood85 , I’m so worried & hope he doesn’t get confused with the move , I did explain to him today what the plan is but just hope that he’ll be ok
Atm the moment the physio is ok bit I don’t feel he’s getting enough some days he finds it very hard as he has a few medical problems including his breathing .
At the end of the day we can only try and give him a chance

The progress he makes will be down to him and his commitment to get better.

My Dad had rehab and because he didn't try hard enough he never got much better. He basically spent the last 3 years of his life in a chair as he didn't put the work in. Doctors etc all agreed that he could have done it.

Hope your Dad comes on leaps and bounds.

.My mum went to rehab to be assessed for suitability to come home. It was completely different from the hospital. All the staff had more time to chat and welcomed calls every day - it was two years ago so Covid was still an issue and visiting was strictly limited to one visitor once a week but they helped mum to talk on the phone and facilitated video calls for her.

Thankyou so much for your replies , we’re praying that he has the determination to get better with his mobility . I think hospitals are so depressing & he was in there nearly 9 weeks .
I’m so sorry for your dad LilacLemur it’s such a worry . I’d love to see my dad go home but has to have the determination he’ll need carees now too

No worries 😉 tell Dad to foster a motivational mind set and keep talking to him too. Fatigue is a real aspect we stroke survivors deal with , I’m currently lying down as the fatigue has really got me today x

Thankyou , I agree he does sleep a lot , I went to see him this afternoon in rehab and he seems happy to be out of hospital
it’s so sad 😞 I hope that he’ll be ok and get some of his mobility back 🤞
