How to judge when someone needs hospital care

DF 73 has been in hospital twice in the last couple of weeks with pneumonia. First time he was on IV antibiotics for six days then sent home with oral for five days, soon as he finished he was going downhill again.

Ended up back in hospital as could barely walk, had a temp, breathing was laboured. They kept him in for three days this time just on fluids and oral antibiotics and sent him home yesterday, he was able to walk to the car and ate a sandwich for lunch. Last night he was back to sleeping all the time, vomiting, slightly raised temp.

Are they just sending people home too early because they need the beds? I don't know if he will just improve at home as time goes on but he really doesn't seem well at all. I don't know whether to speak to the gp, get him back to the hospital or what.

I’d be getting in contact with the GP and asking for a review. And ask for something to stop him vomiting, as the elderly can dehydrate very quickly.
Is he toileting ok ?

We got some anti sickness pills this morning which helped, he's still not eaten much but he's drinking regularly and going to the loo.
