Hip fracture with dementia

Does anyone have any experience of this? MIL was mobile with moderate dementia cared for in a res home. She does not know who family is and very confused on all situations.
She has broken her hip and will have surgery of some sort. I understand people with her level of dementia have no rehab potential. What was your experience of a situation like this? Did your loved one regain mobility?

MIL coped really well with her physical rehabilitation after a similar event, but unfortunately the trauma and surgery in her case triggered the start of a steeper decline in her cognitive functions. So much so that if she had another fall and hip fracture, I don't think she'd be able to recover.

Thanks for your response. I hope MIL is able to improve but early days. I imagine there will be a further decline of some kind.
