… for their elderly parent in a care home? My dad, who I’ve posted about before on here, is in a nursing home where his physical needs are met but where he gets little stimulation or company apart from our visits. The staff are busy and dash about doing their jobs - most of the time they just pass by the residents without talking to them, or if they do talk it’s just the odd sentence here and there, usually about practical things. Either my sister or I visit every day and in that time we’ve rarely seen a staff member engaged in a conversation with a resident. My dad has dementia but is lucid some of the time - even in his confused state he still wants to engage with people. We are wondering ( on the advice of an Admiral nurse) whether we should try to employ some kind of companion who would visit him regularly for a chat. Has anyone ever done this or known of anyone who has?
