Worried about potential power cuts this winter

There have been rumblings about power cuts this winter. Now it’s on the main news. Suggesting maybe 3-4 hours per evening on rotation between areas. My parent is 86 and relies on a stairlift to access the only toilet and bedroom. Even if they didn’t they would not be safe without electric. Age UK are asking for contingency plans for vulnerable elderly but what would that look like? I’m worried 😟

I don’t know if you are aware and apologies if you are, but you can register your parent as a vulnerable customer with the energy companies (and water).
I’ve registered Mum and I’ve had emails in advance, of water disruption, so let her know and she can prepare. She hasn’t had any power cuts yet so not sure how that would all work, but I remember the form asking if she was reliant on electrical medical equipment and stairlifts to access bathroom facilities, so I’m guessing there must be some type of plan. I would hope so! I’ve read another thread somewhere where I’m sure posters have said there is a way of keeping the power on for the vulnerable but I didn’t pay to much attention as it doesn’t apply to Mum and I just skimmed over the details.
Suppose you’ll have to ring and ask them?
My Mum is severely sight impaired and was talking of getting her candles ready for any cuts (😳).
I’ve got a camping lantern to give her. It gives off up to 1000lumens which is approx the equivalent of a 100w bulb although they can be dimmed. They last a long time before needing their batteries charged.

@CatsMother66 Thanks for the reminder re: registering with the energy company. I did do this however it was before my parent became reliant on the stairlift. I will contact them again, make sure she is recorded as reliant on a stairlift and ask what the provision is.

I can order her some strong solar/battery lanterns and (I can’t believe I am even having to type this) - a head torch. She would need a light that can be hands free so she can move around :-(
