Ed Balls in Care Homes

Is anyone watching Ed Balls working in a care home? I'm in tears here, not because Balls is a great guy (although I am warming to him hugely). It's the stark reality of what really goes on in dementia and elderly care.

It breaks my heart, and also fills my heart with admiration for the carers. My mum is in care with dementia, I only see the washed, dressed, clean mum, I don't see what staff have to do on a daily basis to look after my mum and other residents in care.

I'd recommend anyone watch this if they have parents. Social care needs radical reform and funding, this programme just skims the surface, but it's worth watching. None of us know what will happen to our parents or us in our latter years, watch this and get an idea of what they/we might face.

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't seen anything about this. Will download and watch later in the week.

Which channel please?

Yes I thought it looked good.

Two things come to mind:

  1. the government is taxing us more but the money is not going to go to social care
  2. it costs more for pet care than human care which is crazy

I'm no fan but I thought it was really well done, and I have a new-found respect for Ed Balls. I totally agree with @rrhuth

It made me so sad to see people with so little quality of life. The utmost respect to those that care, but the system is so flawed.

I listened to it tonight. It had me in tears. I've had care at home and was with a terrible company so it was great to hear there are amazing care homes out there.

I'm watching episode 1 now. It's hugely moving. My mum was in a care home with dementia for 6 years.

Well done to Ed Balls, the production team, and especially to the incredible carers.

Sadly I don't need to watch it as I worked in a care home and saw everything that happens and how hard work it was and being under staffed and under paid. And working through all lock downs. I can never work in social care again.

He has gone up hugely in my estimation.

It broke my heart and he's gone up in my estimation too.

Saw it the last couple of weeks, it's a hard watch but seems well done. Opened my eyes.
