DM is in hospital - bad dehydration and urine infection which has led to kidney failure. Has some memory issues normally, but now very confused and frequently distressed. Doesn't know where she is. I've put this down to the infection and dehydration.

When asked, she says "I'm drinking loads" (well no actually - we know you're not). Been buying all sorts of drinks to try, but she might sip once when prompted but they're all horrible apparently. She doesn't connect it with getting better. Can't / doesn't want to eat (due to the CKD I think).

Apparently IV fluids weren't working, so they've put a picc line in.
Is the picc line more effective because its 'further in'? Also on ABs.

She gets the staff to dial home on her mobile and then cries down the phone asking where everyone is and that she wants to come home. I've been as reassuring as I can and tell her drinking is the key to getting home quicker. Hospital said she must drink plenty as well as having the IV.

We tell her and tell her (very kindly) but can't get through to her. Sad

Family are visiting every day.

I just don't know if it is possible for her to improve from this.

Thank you Hedda! I hadn't heard of those - I'll get some.

Was just going to suggest Jellydrops as well. Apparently some care homes give them in nice China bowls so they look like a nice treat.
