My lovely mum has started having dementia terrors at night and is wetting the bed. She’s embarrassed but my dad is her carer and needs to be able to just whip the sheets off and get her back to bed. Can you recommend a waterproof mattress protector that won’t make her sweat (or even know there is one on the bed)? Any advice appreciated.

We have a Airbnb let and use this type. You wouldn't actually know it was on, it's not too hot and doesn't make a a rustling sound. This company are technically for the trade but if you set up an account and say you have an Airbnb you should be able to order.

I might use this with another protector to be safe, but Soak & Sleep's waterproof anti bedbug encasement is v good. Goes round the whole mattress and is pretty watertight.

I use these bamboo ones from Panda (as I co-sleep with the baby) which are excellent, not sweaty or noisy at all, no rustling etc. They're fine to wash and tumble dry too.

I assume you already know to do this, but In case you don’t.
Have him make the bed in layers
Waterproof-sheet-waterproof-sheet
So he can just whip the top two layers off as needed

I know it's not what you asked but could she be encouraged to wear incontinence protection too? You can get some that are really discrete these days.

I've got one from John Lewis to protect my mattress from the cats. It's for a special coating that keeps you cool. And doesn't rustle.

IKEA do good ones too. Just loop over the mattress

Ds2 has one of these on his bed and it really is lovely and looks just like the mattress surface. It's quite hefty, though and we already have more laundry than we can manage from him so we layer it up with disposable bed mats.

Another vote for the bamboo ones, they are really good. We have them on all the beds now!

Thanks team, will order a few.

Sorry I forgot the link - Ds2 was having a moment. It's a sweetnight one.

In addition to the above, you can place a disposable baby changing mat under the sheet - Aldi are far cheaper than the Pampers versions. Perfect for covering the chair too.

Kylie bed pads are easy to just change as necessary with minimal fuss. Best if patient is also wearing incontinence wear.www.kyliekanga.co.uk/kylie-bed-pad-kylie-sheets
