If you don't mind , I'm parking here before I set off of the road many of you have have trodden.
My Dad is on End of Life Care . We are waiting for updates and phoning the hospital.
Due to distance , Restrictions and Dad having Covid we cannot be with him.
He is on morphine , pretty non responsive ,but mainly quiet
We had a Skype call so he could hear us but of course he couldn't respond .

I know it is inevitable . We are all born, we all die .
Some too early .
Some take more from the world than they bring to it

My parents have always been religious ( Baptist ) so he will go on and meet his Maker . He's never feared Death.
His Faith has always given him comfort so in that sense it will be a relief to him when he passes .
My Mum is in poor health but in respite care so we have to organise a lot of her behalf .

2021 has started in a spectacularly shit fashion. Sad

CatsMother66 · 17/01/2021 10:12

I read your thread last night and have been wondering since how everything is. I hope everything goes as well as it can xxx

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/01/2021 14:29

Thank You .
I phoned the hospital they said he's quiet and comfortable .
Which I'm taking as Hospital Speak for floating on a cloud of morphine .

If that is doing it's job and keeping him pain free and sedated then I'm happy with that

Just waiting now really .

It sounds like they're taking good care of him.

Spied · 17/01/2021 15:34

Think of him laid, pain-free reliving the good times. He has his memories and am sure he's had many happy times with family and friends.
It's so sad for us left behind especially when you can't be thereFlowers

Susiepants · 17/01/2021 15:39

I am going through similar. My dad isn't elderly, he's only in his fifties. Cancer has beaten him within just a few months and now we have been told it'll just be a few weeks. I am devastated and still in disbelief. Despite covid we have still been able to visit but that is another worry. My mum especially seems unperturbed about covid now which of course I can understand but I'm so worried about her picking it up during her visits and getting ill too.

I truly sympathise with what you're going through. It's utterly horrendous to see this happening to someone you love and right now I feel like I'll never be truly happy again.

FluffyFluffyClouds · 18/01/2021 16:46

So sorry for you both. It's a very odd time, waiting through the end stages of someone's illness.
Susie sending you unmumsnetty hugs as your poor Dad is way too young to be going through this.

I lost my grandma on Wednesday too. I'm so sorry for your loss op. I know what you mean about being numb. I feel like I can't quite feel yet how big this is but I know one of the underpinning blocks of my life is gone. Such a hard time to lose somebody as well.

Logantrical · 23/01/2021 22:46

I lost my Dad on Wednesday too. I feel for you. It is awful. I am sorry for your loss.

SOLINVICTUS · 23/01/2021 22:46

So sorry 70.
I lost my Mum after end of life care in June. Not unexpected but still terribly bewildering when it comes
Sending you and everyone else in this position Flowers I'm not terribly religious, but I do feel they remain with us.
@CMOTDibbler you welcomed me into the elderly parents thread some years ago (namechanged) and your kindness won't be forgotten. Thank you.

Afishcalledwonderful · 23/01/2021 22:49

I am so sorry for your loss 🌺 I had that call last Saturday - my Mum passed away in a care home. She walked in there on 31 July and I never got to hold her again. I'm all over the place. I think we just need to take it one day at a time.
