I’m pretty sure DM has dementia, forgets thing, looses stuff, cannot do any admin or financial stuff etc. My stepdad took his life last year, probably due to stress. I’ve done loads for her and she keeps accusing me of coming to the house stealing stuff, stupid things like CDs. Of course it’s not true. I am really upset and struggling. I spoke to her GP who says I need to get her in for a routine blood test and urine test but realistically I can’t see her agreeing. What do I do? Posting here because dementia board is too quiet.

I know people keep saying it’s not her it’s the disease but it’s still me, her daughter who is hurting. You're hurting because your mother is saying these things. The reason people are telling you it's the disease is that, if you can keep reminding yourself that, you will come to believe it, and therefore it will no longer be your mother saying these things, and you can disregard them in the same way as you would disregard a toddler shouting "I hate you Mummy" in the middle of a tantrum. You are the daughter of your mother. You are not the daughter of this alien disease that is inhabiting her brain and causing unpleasant words to come out of her mouth.

I would step away and let social services take over
