Healing a huge shingles rash, can any tissue viability or knowledgeable people recommend anything please?

Poor old lad is covered around his trunk and has really big patches up his back.
The crease of his scrotum and leg also feels damp but no spots.
His skin is pretty good for 77 but the size of the area is so big he feels like his skin has shrunk.
He's all scabbed up and dry so could we use an emolient or repair cream now and can anyone recommend a good one please?

Are you sure its shingles. Has his doctor or pharmacist recommended anything

The GP has seen photos and it does look like typical shingles.
He's had it at least eight days and the GP told us he is out of the window for anti virals and use calamine if itchy.
His itchies weren't bad at all considering but he can't sit or sleep comfortably.
