One of my parents is Scottish and we are all wondering if it makes sense for them to move back to Scotland from England because nursing care is free there. (They are in their late 70s and quite fit but obviously planning in case they are not later.)
Does the free nursing care require that people have been living in Scotland for a certain amount of time first? Is it different if someone was born and spent their childhood in Scotland and still has blood relatives there, compared to someone who is English and quite recently moved to Scotland?
How much difference does it make to charges for in-home carers? And what about for living in care homes or nursing homes?
What exactly does it cover and not cover?
Are there any suggestions that the policy may come to an end? (Could the country afford it if Scotland became independent?)
