Alzheimer’s diagnosis

Finally been to see dementia consultant with DM today
Officially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s - at moment it’s her memory that is the biggest issue
They feel she is suitable for medication and are trying her initially on 5mg donepezil (aricept) and will increase to 10mg in 4 weeks
We’ve been told there are 3 other possible drugs to try if this doesn’t suit her
Has anyone experience of this? Any tips? How common are the side effects etc? I’m confused as I thought it was to slow down rate of deterioration but google tells me otherwise!

Have a look at the alzheimers society - there will be lots of information there and probably some forums where you can speak to others in the same situation.

In all honesty I don't think this made any difference to my relative.

I would worry a lot less about the medication and concentrate on practical things for the time ahead.

It's not an easy ride.
