Miserable Mother on Christmas Day!!!

I am married with two young children, my parents just visited for Christmas Day Tea, both in their 70’s....they gave my children money for Christmas...it was supposedly agreed that we wouldn’t give to adults this year, however I over looked this as if I hadn’t given my parents gift bags with goodies in and an amount of money for them each to spend them they wouldn’t have had any presents to open on Christmas Day morning....my mother visited earlier in an absolutely terrible mood, she wouldn’t speak to us properly and make any sort of conversation! I asked my Dad why and he explained its because I gave “presents” for Christmas and it was agreed that we were not going to exchange gifts for the adults!!! They are coming over for both dinner and tea Boxing Day and I’m now dreading it....she’s a very judgemental person and is basically very hard work, although for some reason she believes she’s “easy going” My children and hubby witnessed her silly behaviour too....Just wondering if I should just ignore her? I’m slightly fed-up with her attitude towards me to be honest as I thought I was doing something nice for them both??? Thanks for any advice???

It sounds like you've made your mother feel uncomfortable, they asked for no gifts but you ignored that. I'm sure you did it with the best of intentions but you were wrong.

Just apologise and explain why you did it.
