Short break ideas for 90 yr old

DMiL is a fairly active 90 yr old - lives alone and independently, cooks and cleans for herself, does her own weekly shop, gets hair done once a week etc. all done very slowly of course, but we're incredibly proud of her.

She has often come on holidays with us - quiet villas with air-con but this year isn't budging "just in case I don't make it home". I want to take her on a short break, maybe 2 nights away somewhere, no more than a 2 hr drive from home, so West Wales, Cardiff, Brecon, Bristol area.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could treat a 90 year old lady? I'd love to take upheld for afternoon tea in The Ritz but am concerned with the walking and the crowds.

Maybe a night or 2 at Celtic Manor for that "swish hotel" feel. Day out to Castel Coch, trip to coast.

Bath? My mum and I went there for her 80th birthday (so younger than your MIL ) and had a great time; we went to the Spa - would MIL like that?

The Gower. Fairyhill is an upmarket restaurant which does afternoon tea. Other things to see and do including an archery and falconary centre, their Great Dane is currently in the news. Beautiful views, museums and Plantasia in Swansea centre. River cruise, Joes ice cream, castle and independent shop in Mumbles, need I go on?

River cruise is not in Mumbles, it goes up the Tawe giving history about Swansea's industrial past.

Troys she is a regular at Joe's
and she has taken my DC to Plantasia every summer. She loves the shops on Newton Rd but balks at the prices for things like soap

What if like to do is pay for us to travel 1st class on the train to London, taxi to hotel, then Harrods, The Ritz for afternoon tea and a show, over 2 days.

Think it's too much though and the cost would probably kill us both

Can you find a show on tour in Cardiff, Bristol, Bath or similar and base a trip around that? Am sure all will have somewhere lovely for afternoon tea too, even if not quite the Ritz.

If it works well you could always try the London trip next time.

I took my mother here www.thecorran.com for her 85 birthday and she loved it! The food was wonderful - we started with an amazing afternoon tea sitting on the terrace.
She had a facial and a manicure. We went for a wander round Laugharne and the next day went to Narberth which has some nice shops and cafes.
It was such a relaxing place to stay and we shared a big ground floor room. You need to speak to them to make sure you get a suitable room as my daughters had a great room but it was on 2 levels with a spiral staircase which would have been hazardous for my mum!!

Littlecote House near Hungerford? It's a Warner hotel and caters for adults but most of the guests are elderly. It's a beautiful historic Manor House, has lovely gardens, enertsinment, swimming pool and spa and they go coach trips out to places like Oxford and Bsth.

Does she live in Swansea?

I thought I should mention Just-Go holidays. Coach trips for the elderly, but they really look after people with local drop offs etc. My mother was comfortable using them when her memory first started to fade as they count you on and off the coach. It can be an easy way of visiting another part of the country, much easier than trains, or a short break nearby.

My 90 year old grandad, who sounds similar, has done a number of coach holidays and national trust local association holidays. Might be worth looking at their itineraries for inspiration?

Could you make it to Cornwall? The Bare might suit her. Not cheap though
