Even though things aren't so intense now that Dad is in a care home, I haven't forgotten all the support I got here when the situation was truly awful and I was beyond stressed.

Was on AIBU and Helenluvsrob directed a poster over here. I need to be here too. Elderly mother with dementia at home with carers and so far, so good but it is an unpredictable situation and things blow up out of nowhere.

I think I might find this board helpful. Thank you

So many of us are alone dealing with our parents, or worse still, having relatives who criticise instead of help.

This board is like having a big band of brothers, sisters and dear friends. They laugh with you, cry with you, listen to you rant and give advice based on their own experiences.

I came on here when my mum needed help and so many people gave me practical advice. I remember sobbing as I sewed name tags into her clothes when she went into the home. I had hugs and hand holds and Pms.

I am fortunate that I am retired and don't live too far away from them. As hard as it is for me, I see others on here, with dependent children, full time jobs, their own health problems and living miles away from their parents. This always make me appreciate how much I have to be thankful for.

I am sure that like so many, this has saved my sanity.

BlueJug my Dad was at home with carers for 2 years. He is now in a home. it was the right thing for him at the time but it did require a lot of input from me to keep things on track. He is now in a care home after a fairly sudden and steep deterioration last autumn and i must admit so far it's been a lot easier on me. But i have no doubt those 2 years at home were what he wanted at the time. Now, he seems content in the care home. Querky i can identify with you. On my first visit I sat in the dining room and spent most of my time there sewing labels into Dad's clothes. I have found that anything unlabelled will be lost.

Am newly arrived on this board (and relatively new on MN)

Nursed my DF through his dementia until he had to go into specialist unit before his death. So hard.

Now FIL has increasing needs. I know I will be using this board a lot. Had some very good advice from some very wise and kind MNers. So I'd like to say thank you to them, and thanks in advance for all the kindness and support I know I will get here.
