Recommendation for a personal alarm please

Hello, my mother has recently had a bad fall. Is back home after surgery but the hospital suggested she might want a personal alarm in case she falls again. Please can anyone recommend one, or any tips as this is all new to me. Thank you

hi, depending on where you live your local district or town council might offer these. Alternatively. Age UK do them.

They are linked into the home phone system and can be pressed to send put an alert to a call centre. The call centre will hold details of the next of kin etc. The person wears a pendant round the neck or an wear the alarm on the wrist like a watch

It's really important that your relative wears it at night, or at least puts it on if they get up to go go the loo - lots of people don't and then fall on the way to/from the bathroom.

There's a small weekly charge for the service, usually a few pounds.

My parents have their alarm through AgeUk. They have used it a number of times, and the service has been superb. They have information like the code for the key safe, and if an ambulance is needed it seems to come far faster than if called direct.

Also, if your mum is worried about falling again, she could have a fall detector linked to her alarm which sends an alert if she suddenly becomes prone and doesn't move for a period of time. You wear it on you and it senses of you fall.

Ah, I didn't know such a thing existed, I'll definitely get that sorted too. I've rung Ageuk and they are going to come next week to give her a demonstration of the alarm. At the moment she's too scared to go in her garden alone, so it will be good to get this sorted.
