Sending supportive thoughts re Mother's Day

It s. Not my favourite time of the year as mum died 20 years at and so it just underlines my loss. All the stuff in the press, mumsnet frontpage etc doesn t help either. I know many on this thread are dealing with poorly and dependent mums, or have also lost their mum so I send supportive thoughts to all. Hope we all get a treat from our kids/ at least some slack tomorrow!

I echo bob's comments- so many posters who have lost their mums recently either through bereavement or dementia. Be kind to yourselves. ThanksThanks

Thanks for starting this thread Bob. Mum never liked a fuss about mothers day (she was never one for things like that), but this year is the first that she doesn't know who I am or that I'm her daughter - and never will now.

And so I feel very sad about it.

What a kind thought bob.

Adjusting to life without a mum is the most difficult thing I've ever don, but the support on here has been wonderful, and has given me the opportunity to express some of my feelings and anxieties, which has been hard to do in RL.

CMOT my heart goes out to you - that's so sad. I hope tomorrow isn't too hard for you Thanks

Seemed like everyone I saw today was carrying a bunch of flowers, so I bought myself some daffs for my dressing table. I've tried to keep my eyes on the pavement when out shopping, but every shop window has something about Mother's Day, even the hardware shop Confused. Whatever happened to just a card and breakfast in bed? Maybe I'm just an old grump, but the pressure to celebrate with material things sometimes seems so.... inappropriate?

Thanks to everyone who's missing their mums.

I've had so much support here, it means a great deal,

Of course ping pong there is a strong commercial aspect to it as with all festivals these days. And also a pressure to make a success of it. Bah humbug! Personally my fave festival is Easter it s relatively less commercialised.

Best wishes to all.
