I rang the local branch of the Alzheimer's Society today. Wanted to know if someone could help with an Attendence allowance appeal, she has put me in touch with someone who will come and help with and can help with the Powerof Attorney.

On top of that she told me about local Memory Cafes and strategies to get Mum there, emphasised importance of me having Carer's assessment, registering as carer with GP, told me about the council tax reduction and emailed it all through straight after our conversational is going to ring me in two weeks to see how things are going.

I am really glad I picked up the phone and just wanted to make sure anyone else new to the whole Dementia thing knows about them.

Thanks. I'm very new to it all so that's very useful. Was just looking at the threads here as fil has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and has started deteriorating.

well wynken that's impressive and sounds much better value than my local one- they said they'd contact me re a support group and despite me calling twice i have had no info.

Sounds great - it would be brilliant if they were able to offer as good a service uniformly, but where my parents live, theres absolutely nothing

Oh no, I didn't realise it would depend on where you live, should have guessed really, things usually do Sad If anyone has anything they'd like me to ask when she rings me , let me know and I'll ask her.

The Alzheimer's Society were fantastic for us. They offered a wealth of support when we needed it.
Maybe we were lucky with our local branch, but the thing that struck me was how much they CARED.

Also there's a website with a talk forum called Talking Point. There's lots of help and support there too.

I've asked questions on the talking point and got good answers.

There is also the Alzheimers Show taking place on 19-20 April in London to help support patients and carers of Alzheimers - there will be exhibitors, questions time sessions with lawyers on a wide range of legal topics. The website is www.alzheimersshow.co.uk for more info.
