Elderly parents

I fucking hate dementia, I really do

Sorry, but just been to see my parents today. Mum has frontotemporal dementia, and it means that there she is, but everything that was her has died. She can barely talk now, doesn't understand what is said to her, so poor ds(6) is talking to her and she just looks at him. No reminiscing about the past for us - she can remember that better, just won't/can't talk about it.

And my poor dad was never cut out to be a carer, and is soo angry with her cos he doesn't understand what is going on, and is embarrassed by her behaviours.

Never thought I'd have a 6 year old and be arranging carers for my parents at the same time Sad

Oh no... I feel for you, I really do. Dementia is the cruellest thing on earth. Sad

Only advice I can offer you right now is to head over to the Alzheimer?s Society Talking Point Forum. It?s a fantastic place with fantastic people, many of whom are in your shoes ? your father?s shoes and even some in the beginning stages of your Mum?s too. Lots of excellent info, friendly helpful advice and a great outlet for letting off steam and bouncing around when you?ve had a bad day. forum.alzheimers.org.uk/forum.php

Also, don?t forget to take advantage of whatever help and support you?re entitled to and is offered.
