Any advice about moving to a different authority? Housing?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone knew anything about this?
My mum wants to move my nan to be closer to us as she lives away from most of her family and alone. She's currently in a council bungalow about 40 miles away from where we live. She's finding it more difficult to get about and we would like to move her here so we can help out more. Does anyone know if and how we would go about finding her suitable accommodation here (sheltered housing?) and how difficult to move to a different authority? Would she be at the bottom of the "list" ?
Anyone with any experience of this your advice would be greatly appreciated :)

My grandparents moved from a far council house to an 'old peoples' bungalow near my parents. It all happened really quickly, but it probably depends on what the stock of housing for the elderly is like in your area. Unfortunatly, they do have a fairly rapid turnover, so waiting lists may not be too long

IIRC, mum contacted the housing department where they wanted to move to and they were very helpful in sorting it all out.
