we have just moved the family back from new zealand and are looking to get our eight year old and six year old daughters into a school for september. can anyone give me advice on schools in the rural areas around bristol as we are looking to move out from temporary accommodation in the city to a village within commuting distance soon. also, if anyone knows of a house to rent....!
thanks alot.

I would speak to the LAs (South Glos/North Somerset) about where available spaces are first. Schools near Backwell/Wraxall/Failand are well regarded as are Almondsbury/Thornbury schools, but I would imagine they are pretty oversubscribed. I would find the school places then start searching for a house nearby.....

Winford school is expanding as a nearby primary is closing down so may be worth trying there.

Winford is absorbing the kids from Filton, which is the school closing down. Some people say the school is not so good because of the rapid expansion, but it depends what you want.

I would decide what you want in a school and visit a few. If you want to live somewhere in commuting distance, it depends where you work as that might affect your choices. My ex and I lived in Blagdon and the primary there has a good reputation and is in the catchment for Churchill Secondary School. Please buy our house which we have reduced in price especially for you .

thanks all for your advice. and thanks for the tip off, QueenofWhatever, abour your house - i can't get the website to open but will look! what did you make of blagdon? it seems very sweet from a brief visit. and the school does have places as does the one down the road at ubley so had already put it on the possible list.
