Lochinver House School

Lochinver House School is the most marvellous school. I have two of my three children there (my little one is too young still). It is such an inspiring and nurturing school and both of my children are really blossoming there.

As for the all boys aspect, I think it is wonderful. I had to take my oldest child out of a mixed school at 7 because the girls and boys didn't play well. He has made a lot of friends at Lochinver and from a social and learning perspective I am a very big fan of single sex education now. I hadn't realised the merits of it, but now I can see it with my own eyes.

Their learning methods are super, and they really do understand boys and ease them into work enabling them to be mature and happy.

Please ask me any questions if you are considering sending your child there.

My friend's son was bullied there, badly. She also felt she stood out as not one of the yummy, mummy brigade. A trial of one but she pulled him out. It was a shame as he showed real early promise. This was a while ago now though.

Glad to hear you are so positive and have such a fantastic experience. How large are the classes?

Is it true they won't prepare them for the 11+ at all and won't even write a reference as it's a 13+ school.

My sister considered there for her ds but didn't go and this was one of the main reasons.

Considering sending ds - glad to hear your positive feedback eLleyC. Very sorry to hear about the bullying, though.

The thing is, someone has been bullied badly in every school. No school is completely immune to it. I'd like to know more, though. eLleyC - how do ou rate their attitude to bullying now? What else do you think is so good about the school?

I would like to know why you haven't commented on anything else on mn other than this school?
Are you being paid for your advertorials?

Good for you ,I wouldn't have sent any of my dcs to a single sex school if you paid me

It is a very odd OP.

We have a son at Lochinver too. Academically the school is brilliant but there is a noticeable problem with bullying and other behaviour. Last year a child was expelled for persistently carrying a knife (why this needed to be persistent before action is beyond me, but may be explained by the same problem that we are currently experiencing).
There is a new headmaster and whether things will improve on behaviour is yet to be seen. In our son's year, Year 2, there is a child who has been subject to repeated complaints about his bullying etc - in at least one case, the victim's father gave the school a choice about moving his son to the other class or he would leave the school. Other parents are openly stating dissatisfaction with lack of action. There is a current complaint from one parent that has reached solicitors letters stage about the very same child.
In most private schools, 5 complaints about bullying would lead to expulsion, but the problem for the school is that the mother of the child concerned plays the race card every time.
