Hi, does anyone know if there is a marked difference in the curriculum between Scottish and English primary schools ?
DS1 would have been moving into primary 5 in Scotland, but will go into year 4 in new school.DS2 would be going into primary 2 so year 1 in England. I know the year names are different but not sure about the actual level of learning/curriculum....
thanks

I am moving from England to Scotland this summer and have the same dilema. My eldest are just finishing Year One and going into P3 in August. From what I can gather, from visiting the school in Scotland with the childrens books, is that they are following a similar cirriculum. However, things change from the EYFS to the National Curriculum in Y2 in England, where they will sit SATS and have results at the end of the year providing guidance on levels of attainment. I found some of this information on the internet through the national curriculum website.

I have looked at the similar sites for Scotland but cannot transfer any of this information across. Also the ages of children differ in these year groups. My twins will be the youngest in their new form as their birthdays fall at the end of February. In England the years run Sep to Aug!

I am sure all will be fine at their level though as we will be coming back to England at some point I do need to feel 'informed' of the education standards and expectations of children in their year groups.

Any info on P3 would be greatly appreciated!

wouldlikeagirl - this website might help you:

www.ltscotland.org.uk/

Click on the ink 'Curriculum for Excellence' - it's the 'new' curriculum in Scotland and applies to primary and secondary. I hope you find it helpful.

wouldlikeagirl and OP, do check that they have to go into that year group. We did the England Scotland move this time last year, and I remember that if the birthdays fall before the end of Feb you can chose which year group they go in to. If you are worried about them being the youngest, that could be a solution, and only a problem if you return to England just at the point where they might be going to secondary.
