Teachers in schools about to become academies - what is your view?

We are on route to becoming an academy and I don't know anything about it. Have been in the school for years and years so it may be time to move on. Should this give the push to go or the pull to see new exciting times.

had exactly this conversation at work today- our school is 'in the process of finding out more about it'. Generally people seemed to feel that there were advantages to going the academy route from the point of view of having control over your own money rather than LEA(and in fact my HOD said the LEA would fold if 30+ schools went this way in our area) BUT that it would give the schools control over working conditions and pay. This could be good or bad depending on your Head- from a classroom teacher point of view that was what people thought would be the major change.

That was what we said as well. There is just such negative press about academies that I found myself assuming that I did not want to be part of one - but I did not know why.

There is loads of information and FAQs and a section for teachers info (IIRC) but I am trying to find the DCSF link. Have you seen it already?
