could you use comic sans & manually add tails to the ts???

alternatively, buy a mac

MathsMadMummy · 29/06/2010 10:48

did you look up segoe print and MV Boli yet?

MathsMadMummy · 29/06/2010 10:50

BTW is there a specific reason for you wanting this font? If not, I'd say maybe it's not worth getting totally hung up (I mean that nicely!) on the t thing, as DCs will sooner or later learn that all letters have variations - like the different a, g, t etc.

StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 10:51

Ponders. That is Exactly what I am doing for now. He is only learning single words so it isn't much effort. Perhaps I can avoid all words with 't' in . Have to change his sister's name though.

And thanks for nobody jumping on me about teaching him to read preschool. I promise we have a VERY good reason for doing this.

MMM Thank you Boli has the wrong a, but Sego is okay-ish. Pobably a bit to curly if I'm honest the little n looks a bit like a capital n to the untrained eye.

It is quite important for ds that he gets the 'correct' version first. I'll probably persist with the manual adjusting for now and then see if I can get that disk for cheaper or borrow from someone.

I see nothing wrong with attempting to teach it preschool! what's your reason though? (just nosey curious_

did you try just Boli? on my computer the one called MV Boli has a proper a.

cornsilk5793 · 29/06/2010 11:24

arial?

WhatsWrongWithYou · 29/06/2010 11:49

Sorry about the Times Roman debacle - trying to remember off the top of my head (was designer in the dim and distant past).
Optima

StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 11:51

No, MY MV Boli doesn't have a proper a.

Nor does arial. does it for you cornsilk?
You know, an 'a' without a sun canopy as is shown here!?

OP posts:
StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 11:53

opitima still has a canopy a. I want a that looks more like this q but without the tail. dyswim?

StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 11:54

DS is SN and he 'wants' to learn to read. We're using it as a bribe to get him to do other stuff that he is rubbish at.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 29/06/2010 12:03

Ha! When you said 'proper a' I assumed you meant traditional < pedant >. In that case, has anyone said Futura?

StarOfValkyrie · 29/06/2010 12:06

The 't' is wrong with Futara

This is tough!

fine hand?

Bonsoir · 29/06/2010 12:25

Sassoon Primary

Ponders · 29/06/2010 13:02

oh that must be the one they use for ORT!!!

Do you always have to pay for it though? No free downloads?

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/06/2010 13:05

Verdana. It's the one they use on MN and it has what you call a 'proper' a!

Ponders · 29/06/2010 13:07

Montessori free download on this page - is script though, no good?

Ponders · 29/06/2010 13:10

Verdana has the canopy a, BIWI. Star wants the a like a squat d, as in comic sans (as primary schools teach it to be written)

fruitful · 29/06/2010 13:17

Berlin Sans FB - curly t, round a, proper curly k too. It's free with Office ...

cheeseytoastie · 29/06/2010 13:20

openoffice has one called 'modern' that looks good, proper a and curly t, you need a fairly large font size but I guess that won't be a problem. Can't do a link, but oo is free to download so worth a look.

BecauseImWorthIt · 29/06/2010 13:21

Ah. Sorry!

(But would do anything to avoid Comic Sans!)

How about Gill Sans?

thumbwitch · 29/06/2010 13:46

Star, if you don't mind closed-in k, then this font might do for you - scroll down til you get to the National Primary Mag - it's a modified form that has the ticks on the t and an open a, but it does have a closed k. It's free.

thumbwitch · 29/06/2010 13:49

Or there is this one called teacher penmanship font - the only thing with this one is it doesn't have the tick on the tail of the q. Also free download.
