My dd was sent home with a letter as follows.

As of Sept 05 your childs class will be named yr 2 Abrahams. Carl Abrahams was a self taoght Jamaican artist and was born in 1911. Please help your child to carry out research about this artist.
The letter then goes on to give a website. Then says please allow your child to draw their own version of one of his painting and a few sentences of what they think he is trying to portray.

Sorry if too long, but I am thinking this is a bit much to expect as dd is 6.
and also if anyone knows anything about this artist please let me know.(never heard of him )

have you tried googling him?

Well I suppose it beats another dreaded holiday diary!

I don't think it sounds that bad, particularly if you have the website. Why not print out some pages and read them through together and get her to draw a picture adn write a few words. Should be able to do that in less than an hour which is fine????

Well it does seem like a lot for a 6 yr old, but don't really know what to say to help. Have never heared of the artist either (what a lot of help I am), but I would consider it far to much for ds (nearly 6).

I wonder if this is really to get your child using the internet for something they won't know about anyway. If you look up Carl Abrahams on google image it gives a few pictures which I would have thought a 6 year old could have a go at - see if I can find one to link to! look here

sounds like nice homework to me

blondehelen · 15/08/2005 18:46

googling him just bring up his obituary which generally says the same as everything else. Maybe just need to keep it simple!
