Teaching Assistant - qualification question

There seems to be so many different Teaching Assistant qualifications out there that it's difficult to know where to start!

My DP is interested in becoming a TA. He has no professional experience with children. We have seen a NCFE Certificate Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (Teaching Assistant) course on offer at the local college - it would be one morning a week at college, plus one day a week volunteering in a school. Can anyone tell me if this is a worthwhile qualification to have?

Hi there,
I am a TA and I would say the following, 1 I would look at voluntreering in a school first to see if your DP likes it.

Next I would get look at doing an NVQ or a BETEC in something like Childcare Learning and Development - I would look at doing a level 3 course, as this meens you can work unsupervised. This could meen that your DP does a NVQ2 or a first diploma then go on to doing a NAtional Diploma or doing an NVQ 3.
