Careers guidance programmes/aptitude tests

Just wondered if anyone had experience of these. I think it is a series of tests that give children an idea where their strengths are/future career ideas. My dd in y10 has the option of doing Preview careers selection programme and the Cambrodge aptitude test. Has anyones child done these or similar? I would be interested to know if you/your child found them useful

I did one of these at sixth form back in the 1980s. It was 'in development' and we were the guinea pigs. I can only hope that it has improved since then!!

It seemed to be quite heavily weighted towards careers where there was a shortage of people (town planning and nursing!!).

I am sure they have improved these things now.

Morrisby tests are offered at a lot of independent schools. DS1 took one and said that nearly all the boys in his class got pretty similar results. He didn't take the degree/profession recommended either. DS2 didn't bother to do the tests but did the Course Finder part, which was equally useless.

The information these tests yield is so very general, and reveals little about the student's personality in my opinion.

Those administering the process just seem to give stock suggestions based on the scores in some fairly trivial psychometric tests, and a short interview.

However, somebody's making a lot of money out of the whole procedure.
