what age can they start doing drama classes?

Am wondering whether it would suit ds1, but he's only 5. Has anyone sent their children to acting/drama type classes, how old were they, what age do you think they are likely to be ready?

The youngest I thought that kids usually started was age 9.

How elaborate a presentation is it? Is your dd better than average at paying attention & concentrating?

Spontaneously ds1 tried to put on a little show for us (at home) the other morning; he was also one of about 35% of his school selected to sing at the Cathedral a month ago. He'd love showing off er, performing if he had a good teacher who could handle him ok (because he's still a little rapscallaion boy, and all that!).

my sisters did dance and drama from age 3 so just depends where you go. think i was about 7 when i started it

Stagecoach take them from age 4 (they may accept them the term they turn 4 but for some children that is slightly too young. Dd will start Early Stages this September, 2 weeks before her 4th birthday on a 2 week trial. Not every school has an Early Stages class though, you need to ask.

It does sometimes depend on the child as to exactly when they are ready. Ask to visit a school and have a look at the sort of things they do, in Early Stages it is very teacher led and will be singing games to get them used to using their voices, in drama it will be fun games to develop awareness, confidence, team working and thinking about different characters and situations. I'm no dancer (lol) so can't really comment on what they do in that class.

Zebra, a presentation can sometimes be a simple demonstraion of what happens in a class, so they will perform an excersise, improvisation, song and a simple dance routine in front of you, or it may be a short simple piece specially written for children of that age with fun songs and a little dance..
