Broken laptops

I have 2 dead laptops. What shall I do with them? I see there are companies that will offer cash for them but will they try and access stuff on the hard disc and rip me off? Is there anybody who has got rid of their broken laptop via a reliable company? Thanks in advance.

I would take the hard drives out first and then see if anyone wants the basic frame to add a new harddrive to. I think in the end, DH removed the hard drive and stuck a screwdriver through it to make sure it really couldn't be used.
