Hi

I am looking for a tutor in Nottingham to help my son prepare for private school exams at 11. He is nearly 9. So far my efforts have proved fruitless.

thanks in advance

Hi
My son sat the entrance exam for NH in Jan, there's a sample paper on their web site, they are looking for boys that achieve level 5 sats in year 6 so if this is achievable for him then he should be OK.

Hi
Thanks, yes I had a look at the papers. He is only in Year 3 at the min and was thinking of starting the tutoring in Year 4. He is very bright but suffered really badly with hearing problems in his first two years at school (thankfully it is much improved now) and as a result his literacy (initial sounds etc) is weaker than it should be. He is very good at maths but not so at Literacy. Was thinking of NH, Trent College and poss Loughborough Grammer as choices but know very little about the last two so will need to research.
Thanks for the help.

Ps are you and your son happy with NH?

Ds doesn't start year 7 until September, he can't wait. He's at a school in the next city, the one with the rubbish football club . Both NH and TC have a junior school, they sit an entrance test for this but it's less competitive, they are pretty much guaranteed a place for the secondary part. It may be worth considering.

Thanks, yes I had wondered if that was worth it as I wasn't sure if they had to sit the secondary exam anyway. He is not keen on leaving his primary school before the end but I may have to persuade him.

Thanks again

You know Loughborough Grammar have Y6 entry as well because of the primary schools ending at Y5 in parts of Leics? Sample papers for Y6 and Y7 on their website. School buses are well-used as well as trains and service buses.

They all have to sit the entrance exam for the secondary school but a place for those in the junior school is pretty much guaranteed though. Take him to have a look around NH, we fell in love with the place. There's so many extra curricular activities on offer and the DT lad really is great. I didn't take ds to see TC as they do more sport then NH, NH seemed very academic.
