Where should we live?

We're an American/English family returning to live in London some point in the summer. We have a 4 year old who would be starting primary school in Sept. Obviously we may have little choice about where she goes so I would welcome any advice of areas in London in which the schools are not completely over subscribed and the general quality is decent? I've read that all of the schools in Muswell Hill are good - are there any other similar areas (North, south, east or west?)

Hi Jake72 - you might consider Herne Hill / Dulwich - some excellent primaries (St Saviour's, Dulwich Hamlet, many others I'm sure) and The Charter (secondary) recently graded outstanding by Ofsted). You do pay big money in Dulwich but Herne Hill cheaper. Alternatively consider Kennington - Lambeth schools have had a poor reputation in the past but primaries are often good and secondaries improving. Property prices surprisingly reasonable (by London standards) given how close it is to central London.
