Attending a school in different LEA from where you live

We are going to be moving house and I am investigating schools and areas at the moment.

There is one house which is on the border of two LEAs which are both in the same county (Yorkshire) but different parts (city of York and East Riding). The house is virtually in the middle (0.6 miles to one school and 0.4 miles to the other). Was just wondering if it is possible to attend school in a different LEA - I presume if part of the admissions criteria is catchment based that you would be further down, but we need to find a school with spare places anyway.

Am going to visit both schools next week so will ask then, but was wondering if anyone has any experience.

I am also in Yorkshire and my kids go to school in a different LEA as we are in a similar situation to you. So yes it is doable!!!!!

Thank you Thought it would be likely to happen but good to hear from someone who actually does it

Very common here too, the boundary runs down the middle of my road!

hijack - milliways i looked at your profile pics as i am a nosey old bag and the pic of the swimming pool you have, was that in the south of france at port grimaud?

looks very similar to one at a camp we have stayed at!

Milliways · 19/04/2010 19:48

Yes it was! Good spot

Compost · 19/04/2010 19:50

was it domaine des naiades or another one? We have stayed at a few down there. How funny!

Milliways · 19/04/2010 19:55

Naiades! (With Canvas) We really enjoyed that holiday - walked through the Prairies site to the beach, and took the boats to St Tropez (Going out now - check back later)

Compost · 19/04/2010 20:01

well I never! We have been there several times with canvas! And done the walk to the beach on a daily basis. Oh the struggle up the hill back to the camp in the heat! We were there last august. Thought it must be that one. Nice onsite restaurant .

Right I shall leave you to your LEA discussion Noah, as you will be thinking how rude I am!

But to add to your thread, i have dc at school in a different county as we are 1 mile from the border.

Different LEA, different county and 2 LEA between us.

Not as great a distance as it sounds, just how the boundaries are.

I do like it when threads take on a life of their own (that is not sarcastic by the way ).

I feel glad to hear that it happens, and also glad that Milliways and Compost have been reminiscing about France
